More about the Tracker!
The Healthy Living Tracker has been designed to be both realistic and flexible, fitting easily into your lifestyle. To achieve your weight loss target, we have devised an 'easy-add' system so you can easily monitor your food intake and identify healthy, low-fat options.
What is a Total?
A Total is the value given to food and drink items depending on their calories and food type. Totals differentiate between saturated fat and unsaturated fats, as well as refined and wholegrain carbohydrates and so foods higher in good fats and wholegrain carbs will have lower Totals values. This is reflective of the better nutritional quality and health benefits of such foods. Also, foods higher in salt and sugar will have higher Totals values than those lower in these components. Please see the Healthy Eating with Healthy Living Tracker page for more information on choosing the right foods and guidance on portion sizes.
Daily Totals Allowance
Before you start you need to find out how many Totals you need to have each day. Depending on your weight, height and gender, you eat a certain number of food Totals each day. This has already been calculated for you! Your daily Totals allowance is there for you to see on the Daily Summary page, so you see it as soon as you log on. This is updated each time you weigh in.
How to use the Healthy Living Tracker
You can use the Totals plan in one of two ways:
- Customise your diet using your Nutrition Totaller! Just enter the foods you eat each day and Nutrition Totaller does the rest. It not only shows the Totals values of your foods, it also calculates calories, carbs, protein, fat, fibre and salt. The more you use it, the more it can tell you.
- Follow our sample meal plans! Find the meal plan that suits your preferences and use the sample plan as a guide. You can easily increase or decrease portions to meet your personal Totals allowance. You can make as many changes to these meal plans as you like - just use your Nutrition Totaller to help you find suitable replacements.
Important Notes
- Weigh in weekly using your My Profile page, and we'll use your new weight to along with your height, activity level and gender to calculate your Totals allowance for the coming week
- Eat up to your Totals everyday but do not eat more than you need
- Be sure to eat enough Totals every day but don't eat less than 6 Totals below allow your allowance (with an absolute minumum of 30 Totals per day).
- Try to have no more than two alcoholic drinks per day and two treats per day
- See our Healthy Eating with Totals pages for more information on a healthy and balanced diet.
- Please note that the nutrition information we provide in the Nutrition Totaller is dependant on the availability of nutrition information from manufacturers and retailers, and so values for all nutrients may not be available (for example saturated fat, unsaturated fats, sugars, fibre and salt may not be available for all foods).
